Status:

Declared Noxious weed. The DPI website has information about the noxious weed classification of this species.

Habitat:

Native to temperate Asia and Europe. Found in streamsides, marshes, fens and wet woods. Prefers a damp heavy soil in a sunny position (PFAF 2000). In New Zealand, found in rivers and drains. Found in Victoria along Tarwin River (Cremer 1995). Abundant on lowland river banks and gravel beds, but also by streams and rivers in hilly regions.
