CarpSim

The CarpSim2.0 software has been designed to help simulate the likely outcomes from a range of pest management activities on carp (Cyprinus carpio) populations in Australia. The software can simulate any spatial arrangement of carp stocks within a population and can incorporate effects of environmental variability on recruitment to produce stochastic simulations that output likely outcomes of management activities in a risk-management framework.

Carp management activities that can be simulated include:

• Size-selective removal (e.g. fishing with nets, traps, cages etc)
• Non size-selective removal (e.g. angling, poisoning with incomplete mortality)
• Spawning sabotage (Induced, sporadic, complete failure of a year-class to survive through habitat manipulation, behavioural disruption etc)
• Daughterless-carp (i.e. technology in development by CSIRO to genetically induce inheritable sex-reversal in female offspring to critically skew the population towards male-domination) sufficient to cause population decline.
• Sex-selective removal (as with other removal methods, only weighted towards either males or females perhaps through pheromone mediated behavioural manipulation)

Carp management activities can be simulated at virtually any intensity and in any combination.

Whilst the Department of Primary Industries, Victoria Pty Ltd (“DPI”) has taken care to ensure that the Software functions correctly, DPI makes no representation in relation to the Software and the end user uses the Software entirely at the end user’s risk. DPI assumes and will have no liability in respect of the accuracy, completeness or fitness for purpose of the Software, or any model created by the Software using data supplied by you or by any third party. CarpSim2.0 is a stand-alone application that runs on Windows XP™ operating systems. It contains an extensive Help system with step-by-step instructions on how to set-up and simulate carp populations management activities; and an example data set to get you started. Permission to use CarpSim2.0 (comprising the software, the data which it manipulates, and any related documentation) (the “Software”) is conditional on you agreeing to the Licence Terms. To use the Software you will agree to be bound by the Licence Terms. Use by you of the Software and access to the Software will be denied if you do not agree to be bound by these Licence Terms.

To install the latest version of CarpSim (April 18th 2012) without the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. Download the option 1 zip file, extract the contents to a temporary directory and run (double-click) the file 'setup.exe' file included in your installation package.

During installation you may be prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (external link). Version 2 of the CarpSim2.0 zip includes the .NET Framework should be downloaded to a temporary directory and run (double-click) the file 'setup.exe' file included in your installation package.
