About the LFA

Landscape Futures Alliance

The LFA is a newly formed research group of 15 leading scientists and managers from Universities and State Government Departments who have joined forces to address some of today’s biggest questions in land and vegetation management.

The LFA hopes to significantly improve decision making and target setting in rural and urban-fringe landscapes and to improve cost effectiveness of efforts to restore ecological function to degraded land.

The group is particularly focused on the adoption of sound ecological research and understanding in landscape planning and policy implementation.

Landscape Futures Alliance is a group of researchers from DPI, DSE and Victorian Universities that have determined to work together with the following aims:

1. Develop a collaborative research program that would address landscape scale ecological questions relevant to land-use planning
2. Develop approaches to predicting distribution and persistence of native biota in landscapes with differing land use, vegetation cover and pattern.
3. Facilitate adoption of sound ecological research and understanding in the undertaking of landscape planning questions.

The group was formed at a workshop held on 21st July 2004. The Workshop Report (PDF 279KB) is available here.
