Impact Modelling and Land Suitability Analysis

Farming Systems Scenario Development | Impact Modelling and Land Suitability Analysis | Institutional Adaptation | Policy Research | e-Resource Centre and Visualisation | Communications and Utilisation

Developing understanding of the potential impacts of climate change on current and future agricultural production systems is fundamental to guiding actions required now to secure farming systems for a future influenced by climate change.

Ryegrass Land Suitability Change
Ryegrass Land Suitability Change: comparison between baseline (Year 2000) and future (Year 2050) extreme scenario (A1FI)

To achieve this DPI VCCAP is modelling likely biophysical impacts of climate change on current production systems in the pilot region. The team will then define and model the biophysical characteristics of potential agricultural systems identified under different future scenarios.

Historical wheat yield (a) and (b) projected A1FI climate change scenario expectation, at Hamilton. The figure depicts grain yield per decade as mean (red line), median (black line inside box), 25 and 75 percentile (lower and upper box), 5 and 95 percentile (lower and upper ticks) and low and high extremes (dots). The dotted lines show the overall mean (brown) and median (black).

Understanding the likely impacts of climate change on current and future agricultural production systems is essential to guide sustained action to develop farming systems that persist and evolve in a changing climate.

The project sheet summarises the Impact Modelling and Land Suitability Analysis research theme.
