This Landscape Plan for the South West Goulburn Landscape Zone - August 2003, was produced in collaboration between S. Way & E. Moysey - Ecology Australia, Fairfield; K. Lowe & H. Anderson - Biodiversity and Natural Resources Division, DSE; M. Howell - Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.

The Yea Landscape Zone is characterized by strongly dissected hilly terrain descending from the Kinglake Plateau in the south to the Goulburn Floodplain in the north. It is made up of the Central Victorian Uplands and Highlands - Northern Fall bioregions. Many EVCs have been majorly depleted due to extensive agricultural development in the fertile floodplain. The predominant EVCs include Grassy Dry Forest, Herb-rich Foothill Forest, Floodplain Riparian Woodland and Valley Grassy Forest. The zone supports important populations of Striped Legless Lizard and Powerful Owl. Threats include conflicts between conservation and hardwood production, as well as wildfire in the forest blocks. On private land, land degradation and habitat destruction from grazing, pasture improvement, clearing and erosion threaten habitat for native species such as the nationally Vulnerable Striped Legless Lizard.
