Reedy Lake Landscape Zone is part of the Victorian Riverina bioregion and is a near-flat alluvial plain, with some lake-lunette formations around Bailieston East and with most drainage lines flowing into the swamp system associated with Reedy Lake, the central feature of the zone. The natural features of this wetland formation have been essentially destroyed, though substantial areas of the associated gilgai plain woodland/wetland remain. The zone encloses several wetlands that are of bioregional conservation significance. Most of the former native vegetation in the zone, which consisted of a mix of riverine and plain woodland types, has been cleared for agriculture, which is mainly broad-acre grazing. Reedy Lake is one of the few significant reserves of public land occurring in the bioregion. Fragmentation of habitat is a major threat within the zone but roadside and creekline reserves retain important and high quality connective habitat for several threatened species of plants and animals. Stream condition is moderate to poor. Populations of aquatic species have mostly been lost.
