Werribee Plains Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Significance

Werribee Plains Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Significance
Werribee Plains Sites of Geological and Geomorphological
This information has been developed from the report: Sites of Geological and Geomorphological Significance in the Western Region of Melbourne. The report was prepared in 1986 by Neville Rosengren (Department of Geography, University of Melbourne) for the then Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands. The study identifies sites which are of importance in defining the geological and geomorphological characteristics of the region. These sites are of significance as a field resource for persons studying, teaching or undertaking research in earth sciences, and to others with an interest in the configuration and origin of landscapes.

A total of 186 sites were described in the report by Neville Rosengren. Many of these sites are located within the Werribee Plains region. The sites described are given a significance rating (i.e. International, National, State, Regional or Local); sensitivity rating (indicating the degree to which the site could be damaged by inappropriate management or land use); and a statement is provided of factors to be considered in management or conservation of the site.
